It’s a new year which means new year’s resolutions and I know some of you have made a resolution to get in the gym! I’ll admit I’m already getting nervous for the day I have to shimmy into a swimsuit so for today’s tutorial I’m excited to be sharing three hairstyles that would work perfectly for the gym and also transition easily into casual everyday hairstyles. I hope these three are a little more unique than your typical ponytail or messy bun so be sure to check out the tutorial below! Supplies: Rattail Comb Paddle brush Elastic bands Bobby pins Hair band Hairspray Double French Braid Ponytails Instructions: In this hairstyle I add in extensions, but you can easily skip this portion of the tutorial if you are wearing this hairstyle to the gym or out to play sports. Step 1 / Start by clipping in some extensions. I’m adding in three of the longer Luxy hair wefts. Step 2 / Next create a zig-zag part down the back of the head and this is what will hide the extension tracks. Step 3 / Tie off the hair on the right side to work with the left. Step 4 / Braid the left section into a french braid by picking up a small section near the hairline and dividing it into three pieces. Cross the right strand over the middle and then the left and then begin adding in new hair into the braid. Step 5 / Continue crossing the side strands over the middle strand while adding in new sections of hair on this left side until it reaches the nape of the neck. Step 6 / When all of the hair is brought in, tie off the braid with a clear elastic band. Step 7 / Now repeat the same steps braiding the right section into a french braid and tie it off with a clear elastic band. Step 8 / Take a small section of hair from the right ponytail and wrap it around the elastic band. Step 9 / Tie a second elastic band over the ponytail making sure to include the ends of the wrapped section to hide the elastic bands. Step 10 / Then repeat the same steps with the left ponytail. Double Dutch Braids and Low Buns Instructions: Step 1 / Begin by dividing the hair into four sections, creating a middle part and continuing it down the back of the head. Then create a horizontal part from the tops of both of the ears. Step 2 / Clip away the top right section and tie off the bottom left section. Step 3 / Begin a dutch braid with the top left section by picking up a small section near the hairline and dividing it into three pieces. Cross the right strand under the middle and then the left strand under the middle. Step 4 / Now continue the braid bringing in new sections of hair until all of the hair from the upper left quadrant is braided. Step 5 / Then cross over the part lines and begin adding in hair from the bottom right quadrant. You could stop braiding the hair once it reaches this bottom section but I decided to continue the braid so I could do the buns at the same time. Step 6 / When all of the hair is included, tie off the end of the first braid and let down the other sections of hair. Step 7 / Now create a second dutch braid starting at the hairline on the right side of the head and working down the back of the head until all of the hair from the top section is brought in. Step 8 / Cross the braid over the first one and continue bringing in hair until it’s all included in the braid. Step 9 / Once both braids are done, remove the elastic band from the right braid and tie the hair into a knot. Step 10 / To do this, take two fingers and place them underneath the section. Then twist the hand to grip the hair between the first two fingers and the thumb. Step 11 / Twist the hand out towards the right and then twist it once or twice more to wrap the section into a twist. Step 12 / Then wrap the twist around itself to form a bun at the nape of the neck. Step 13 / Wrap the bun with a clear elastic band and then pin the edges with bobby pins. Gently pull on the edges of the bun to make it a little fuller as well. Step 14 / Now tie the left braid into a second bon and go back over the braids, pulling on the edges to make them fuller. French Braid High Bun Instructions: Step 1 / Start by sectioning off the hair at the top of the head so create part lines at the corners of the forehead and clip down the bottom hair. Step 2 /Divide off a small section of hair near the hairline and split it into three sections. Step 3 / Begin a french braid by crossing the side strands over the middle. Step 4 / Then begin incorporating hair into the braid and continue the french braid towards the back of the crown. Step 5 / Braid the section a little ways down and tie it off with an elastic band. Step 6 / Brush the remaining hair into a high ponytail for the bun. Step 7 / To create the bun, take a hair band and wrap it once over the ponytail and then place it back in the dominant hand. Step 8 / Twist it once over the dominant hand and use the other hand to spread the ponytail around the base of the ponytail. Step 9 / Wrap the hair band over this base and then twist the band once more and wrap it once more over the hair to form the base of the bun. Step 10 / Pull on the edges to make the bun …
